The Buzz

The current big story in Canadian chess is GM Charbonneau's win over the number 2 player in the world, India's Viswanathan Anand in round 12 at the Olympiad in Turin.  The ChessTalk Message Board has a replay of the game

Like  many others, I'm eagerly looking for annotations of the game to help explain what's going on. Dennis M. at Chess Mind has an annotated replay here. There's also a replay with some kibitzing at Chessgames.com.

Looking over the game reminded me of the saying, "Masters don't play the same game that we do--it just happens to have the same rules as ours."

Many chess fans across the country will get a first hand view of the game as Pascal kicks-off his Canadian tour today in Vancouver. He's also got girlfriend and top women's player Irina Krush along for the ride. Here's a link to the full schedule and more information. You'll also find a bio and link to nearly 600 of Pascal's games.
