Canadian IM Thomas Roussel-Roozmon came achingly close to gaining a GM Norm last month at the
Las Vegas Masters Tournament.
This week in the Globe and Mail, Jonathan Berry has annotated
Roussel-Roozmon's final round game against the tournament's top seed GM Leonid Kritz. Berry notes that by move 10 White may have been able to gain the norm by claiming a draw by repetition. Contrary to this, Mark Crowther in
The Week in Chess reports that Roussel-Roozmon needed to play for the win.
I'm not sure which report is correct but, the game is an entertaining fight to the finish.
Here's the diagram position to the Globe and Mail article.
